You have your plans for the perfect vacation on the West Coast — now all you need to do is sift through hundreds of Gulf Island rental properties to find the right one! Let us help you make the decision an easy one.
Best location for easy travel!
We know traveling is expensive but charm, romance, and a quiet garden on the ocean can soon be at your fingertips. With our cottage location you can save by leaving your car parked at the Tsawassen ferry terminal. The BC Ferries schedule leaves for the Canadian gulf islands twice a day. BC Ferries can load your luggage onto their van, and after a 50 minute ride, stroll 5 minutes to your waterfront oasis.
Garden and arbutus shrouded stairs lead you to a private sandstone and pebble beach. The cottage is walking proximity to breathtaking bluffs, ocean-side provincial parks, moped and kayak rentals, and fine dining. You can walk to a water taxi to explore Salt Spring Island as well!
Past senior cottage renters love the property and location because of the flat grounds and easy access to shopping, as well as placement on a quiet no-thru-road that makes a nice walk.
Book your holiday today at Ferrylanding Cottage. Leave behind the hectic grind of work and traffic in the fast lane. Kick up your feet and relax, or make the most of your west coast visit through popular island activities.
Start things off right
Hop on BC Ferries in Tsawassen, located just outside of Vancouver BC; or from Vancouver Island at Swartz Bay. You may spot a few pilot whales before even leaving the dock! The healing salt sea-wind will refresh you for adventure or tranquility — or a bit of both.
You know you’ve entered another aspect of wild and wonderful British Columbia because the people on Galiano Island move at a different pace. You’ve discovered a very special place. All are welcomed here and islanders love seeing newcomers fall in love with it too.
Arbutus tree bark glowing in the sunset, the contrast of Montague Harbour’s blue waters and white shell beaches, or the sweeping formations of sandstone will be images imprinted in your mind for years to come.
Upon your arrival…
If you feel like eating in, the new and bright sunroom provides extra seating and a perfect place for candlelit dinners and morning breakfasts. Honeymooners find enjoying the view the perfect way to unwind.
If you want to pamper yourself and leave cooking duties behind, the cottage is just a skip away from fresh almond croissants at the local bakery and a four star restaurant for fine dining in the evening.
Barbecue your dinner outside with our electric bbq provided. Gas and propane bbq’s are prohibited on the Gulf Islands due to the risk of forest fires.
We’ve prepared for anything
Galiano Island weather can be unpredictable. Our sunroom’s large windows allow you to enjoy the outdoors and the view no matter what the weather.
Perhaps you’ve come to enjoy the ocean’s winter storms, or the spring gardens surrounding the cottage. If you’re chilly or just after that ‘cozy factor’ enjoy our Franklin Stove fireplace to warm yourself. Select a good read from our small library, watch a movie or play cards to while away a quiet evening.
A short stroll reveals local artisan shops, bakery, ice cream, a retro style Emporium, Thai take-out, a grocer/variety/liquor store, organic clothing, and an enticing bookstore. Walk to fine dining or spa treatments at Galiano Inn Resort. The Hummingbird Pub is a short drive or you can take the trail alongside the road. Movie lovers can rent dvd’s and video’s or choose from our varied “in-house” selection.
What to do?
We highly recommend the tranquil ocean view and first cup of coffee be enjoyed from your queen size bed, beneath the feather-down duvet. After breakfast why not be mesmerized by the waving sea anemones and clinging starfish waiting in the tide pools just steps from your door? A private stairway leads you to a fabulous sandstone and pebble beach.
Marine lovers will delight in the varied boats passing through Active Pass. Navy ships, ferries, schooners, hovercrafts and low flying float planes have all been part of the action.
Don’t forget Galiano Island wildlife.
Your view, Active Pass, happens to be a very popular passage for migrating Orcas (also known as the Killer Whale). Bald Eagles have recently nested near the property and are regularly seen swooping over the garden toward the bay. A family of otters sunbathes on the ferry dock where the fishing boats are moored. And seals pop up to see you while you’re beachcombing below the cottage stairs.
Photography, Sunbathing and Romantic Picnics
Collect unique driftwood, sun-bathe or take memorable portraits and artistic ocean-scape photographs. Pack a picnic and head for Bluffs Park for incredible views of Georgia Strait or romantic Bellhouse Park where proposals and weddings find the perfect setting.
Mid-island you will find the historic Montague Harbour Provincial Park. Coast Salish First Nations peoples called these beaches home and were sustained by the wealth of shellfish and sea life that is still visible today.
Kayak and moped rentals are also available to see the island. Kayakers will delight in moonlight tours offered where phosphorescence shimmers from each dipped paddle. You can take a water taxi and explore Salt Spring Island. Sailors can take tours on gorgeous schooners with experienced Captains.
Brochures are provided in your cottage.
We could tell you more of the joys of Galiano Island in British Columbia’s gulf islands, but there is something special about making your own discoveries as well.
